Croatia victory day
In 1995, the Republic of Serbian Krajina was disbanded when Croats retook territory. On December 19, 1991, the Republic of Serbian Krajina was self-proclaimed the independence and the constitution came into effect the same day.
The date corresponds with the event that happened in 1995, when Croatian military achieved final victory in the long war against Serbian army. Croatian government sent police forces to seize their weapon, which led to the Log Revolution. Victory Day, or as it is officially called Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day and the Day of Croatian Defenders is an annual holiday, occurring every year on August 5 th. In August 1990, a referendum was held in regions with a substantial Serb population, which was later formed into a proto-state, the Republic of Serbian Krajina.
Victory Day commemorates the anniversary when the Croatian Army took the city of Knin during Operation Storm, which effectively brought the end to the Republic of Serbian Krajina proto-state. Victory Day, also known as Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day and the Day of Croatian Defenders, is a public holiday in Croatia, and it is observed on August 5 each year. Reading my previous post on the official celebration of Croatian Victory Day, Thanksgiving Day and Veteran’s Day on Monday 5 August in Knin one might easily conclude that in Croatia there is a certain wave of political manipulation designed to suffocate the joy people are entitled to express when celebrating their victory of freedom and democracy.
